Mechanical Metallurgy

Mechanical metallurgy focuses on the relations between microstructure and mechanical properties of metals and alloys, although the scientific field includes all materials.

The characterization of microstructures with modern instruments is of utmost importance as well as experimental investigations of mechanical properties and theoretical approaches with computational techniques. The present research, being both of fundamental and applied nature, includes hot- and cold forming of alloys, prediction of flow stress, modeling of hardening mechanisms and of distortions during hardening and improving mechanical properties of electrical porcelain. Other topics of interest are: wear, fatigue, creep and influence from the environment on mechanical properties.
