Onboarding
For people who are in the process of joining the Hultgren Laboratory for Materials Characterisation, this webpage provides information about what to do before you get here as well as tips and formal onboarding information.
When offer you a position
When you are informally offered a position, please go to the KTH Relocation site immediately and fill in the forms for finding accommodation and to register for KTH Relocation services. KTH Relocation offers a range of practical support services for people who will be relocating to work and study at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, as well as accompanying partners and family members.
Another key point is that non-EU citizens need residence permits. Please review the information on the KTH Relocation site about how to go about applying for such permits.
When you arrive in Sweden and general tips to prepare
There are many things that you can to do prepare your arrival in Sweden - ranging from banking to personal numbers. Information about such topics can be found on the KTH Relocation site . A group of Post Docs and PhD students have also put together these informal tips (pdf 111 kB) about starting your life in Sweden.
Registering with the Swedish Tax Agency when you arrive is also a crucial task to complete. Their nearest premises to KTH is on Odengatan 54. Kindly ask for a receipt that you have registered with them and bring it with you on your first day.
Getting started at the department
When you have visited the Swedish Tax Agency, we can then go on to arrange for you to get key card access, email addresses etc. Key cards and other topics are described in the department's onboarding document (pdf 626 kB) . There are also lots of forms to fill in so that we can pay your salary into a bank account, know the contact details of your next-of-kin etc. You'll find the forms here .
PhD students should also register for this course , which aims to get you started. This course includes how to go about creating an Individual Study Plan (ISP). ISPs serve as an agreement between the doctoral student and supervisor, outlining the content of the doctoral education and expectations on all parties.
PhD students, post docs and seniors are also advised to participate in networking events so that you get to know other people in your situation. These events are announced in the weekly newsletter that you will receive in your email box every Thursday morning.
During your stay
Your team leader will provide advice and support about your research activities, which may also be discussed and complemented by relevant experts. Tara can address queries about the labs, including safety. Denise can support with queries about travel, ordering IT services etc.
There is a pantry with fridges, microwave ovens, tea and coffee making facilities. Many of us bring our own lunch, which we eat together in the pantry.
There will also be regular workplace meetings, at Hultgren and department levels, where you will find out about what is happening; and, where you also have a voice to raise topics that concern you. You will find out about these meetings via calendar invitations.
Please let us know if you have any queries or concerns.
