Degree projects at MSE
Information about writing your degree project (Master's thesis) at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE).
General KTH information about degree projects can be found here: Degree project - student web .
Write your degree project at MSE
We offer the opportunity to write a degree project (30 credits) to all students enrolled in the Degree Programme in Materials Design and Engineering (CMATD/TTMVM) and the Master’s programme in Engineering Materials Science (TTMVM).
The degree project is carried out individually.
Most students write their degree project in collaboration with a company or another organisation. You are responsible for establishing and managing the collaboration with the company. It is also common to carry out degree projects at MSE as part of ongoing research projects.
It is normally possible to carry out the degree project abroad, but it is important to discuss and agree on this with your supervisor and examiner at MSE. Read more about it on KTH's central pages: Degree project abroad .
Apply to write your degree project at MSE
The degree project is carried out during the spring semester according to the programme syllabus.
If you wish to write your degree project during the spring semester, you should submit your application from around the end of November or December of the preceding year and no later than March of the spring semester.
See Application for degree project for detailed information.
The Master's thesis report is a public document
The thesis report submitted for examination is an official public document at KTH. As a Swedish public authority, KTH is generally required by law to disclose such documents upon request. In addition, approved thesis reports are registered and published through KTH's publication database, DiVA.
If you carry out your thesis project in collaboration with a company or another external organisation, it is important that your partner is aware of this before the project begins. KTH cannot examine a thesis based on confidential material, and the report on which the examination and grading are based must be publicly accessible.
Find a degree project
You are responsible for finding a degree project yourself.
Common ways of finding a degree project include:
-
We normally advertise a number of degree projects before each spring semester. Some of the proposals come from companies and other organisations, while others are formulated by researchers at MSE and are connected to current research projects. The list is updated continuously and is available in TTMVM Programme room for the Master's in Engineering Materials Science in Canvas (you need to be registered on the programme to access the page).
-
You can contact companies or organisations that you are interested in directly, or check their websites for advertised degree projects.
-
Teachers of courses you have taken may have suggestions for degree projects.
-
KTH also advertises degree projects through the KTH Degree Project Portal .
