Refractory materials in steel production: mechanisms of lining wear
ELDMEK
KTH, Outokumpu, Alleima Tube, and Jernkontoret are collaborating on this project. The overall goal of the project is to investigate the mechanisms behind the lining wear that occurs in AOD converters during stainless steel production, as well as to build knowledge for a future full-scale project where measures against lining wear will be tested on an industrial scale. More specifically, this involves answering which (or which) of these mechanisms dominate the wear that occurs in the nozzle zone of an AOD converter:
- Temperature
- Intense stirring / thin boundary layers
- Composition
